Representative Kline, if you actually want to listen, I’m answering # 4 of your latest constituent survey. Across the board income tax cuts won’t work, but giving money directly to the workers will. Plus, tax cuts are not “free” and DO increase the national debt.
We don’t want the rich to get richer. We want paychecks, and we won’t get jobs from the rich, or even the middle class, unless the business owner can see value in hiring. The best way to alleviate our current economic woe is to hand money directly to the worker. Workers with steady paychecks have the courage to buy things and the economic wheel starts to turn in the right direction.
I encourage you to author a companion bill to Democrat Al Franken’s Cash For Jobs, which gives the money directly to the worker and would “reallocate TARP funds and provide $5 billion for wage subsidies to incentivize hiring in the private sector and an additional $5 billion that would be dispursed as direct grants to states, local governments, and tribes to create green jobs.”
Minnesota Senator Franken’s bill is now in committee and is based a program which resulted in immediate hiring, called the Minnesota Emergency Employment Development program.

The only problem that I can find with Senator Franken’s “Cash For Jobs” program is its name. It sounds like a welfare program … which it is … it promotes America’s welfare by re-energizing the workforce through retraining.
Overall, Minnesota has lost over 140,000 jobs – more than 46,000 in manufacturing. Some of those jobs lost were a result of business failures, some due to the economy in general, and some were lost to overseas … the sad reality is that many of those jobs will not come back.
Senator Franken’s Strengthening Our Economy Through Employment and Development (SEED) is a great program … one that is well thought out and could have a long-term impact for workers.
I say, plant a SEED and watch our economy grow.
{A Sidenote : Once again, Senator Franken has removed my concerns that he would be taken seriously … this is a serious proposal and not one that is customarily produced by a Senator in his first year. I encourage everyone to email Senator Klobuchar to ask that she become a co-sponsor. http://klobuchar.senate.gov/emailamy.cfm?contactForm=emailamy&submit=Go }
Isn’t Franken impressive? GREAT idea to ask Klobuchar to co-sponsor. I’ll tweet that.

Regarding, Mr. Kline’s constituent’s survey, how did you answer questions :
10. From what you know about the health care legislation before Congress, would you support or oppose this legislation ?
11. From what you know about the health care legislation before Congress, do you believe the plan would increase or lower your costs for health insurance?
Since the choices were “Yes” “No” or “Unsure”, I suppose that one could infer to answer number 10 and you wanted to support it, you would say “Yes” and if you opposed it “No”, but I have no idea how number 11 could be answered.
On Wednesday, Mr. Kline said “The federal government is too involved in the day-to-day operation of our schools, the federal requirements are too prescriptive, and the measures of success are not nuanced enough” … how will Mr. Kline “measure” the results when he uses “prescriptive” questions that can not provide meaningful responses. And it’s HIS “federal government” through the use of the Franking Privilege to mail out this questionnaire … My advice : Save the taxpayer some monies by hiring competent staff.
